Day 1 Friday, August 11 2006:
Your adventure begins at 1:00 pm with registration followed by an
orientation to the fabulous mini-week ahead of you. Get ready for an
afternoon of space shuttle and space mission orientations. Your team
will then begin training for your special mission into space!
This evening
we have great fan activities – after dinner enjoy arcade and other
sci-fi games such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and other galactic
titles.
After challenging fellow fans on their gaming skills, let’s head out
to the stars for an outdoor (weather permitting) star gazing event.
Bring your blankets and pillows to lay back and enjoy the
masterpieces in the skies while listening to some very “spacey”
music.
Day 2 Saturday, August 12 :
After breakfast this morning, your Atlantis Alpha Training begins.
Your team will train and work in two main mission areas reading
scripts and checklists, learning mission terminology and acronyms,
practicing radio communications, cockpit switches and computer
systems.
Get ready
for some exciting Laser Weaponry Training. Choose your weapon then
brace yourself as you train on an assortment of attack and defense
techniques unique to your weapon. After training, your team will be
divided into two “sides” and the dueling will begin to determine a
winner who will advance to the Laser Weaponry Tournament in the
afternoon. (Note: weapons used will be combat ready and training
foam swords/staffs. Protective head and body equipment will also be
used.)
Before the
afternoon Tournament, you’ll train for your Alpha Bravo Mission.
After lunch you’ll be in the seat of the cockpit when your team runs
its Alpha/Bravo Missions in the authentic NASA space vehicles.
Try your hand at space travel as you construct your own X-Prize
“2004 race into space” Rocket – you’ll have the chance to launch
your model before your Sci-Fi Fan Trips™ @ Space Camp training is
complete. Winners from each team will compete in the Laser Weaponry
Tournament this afternoon. Cheer on your team as the “good guys”
challenge the “bad guys” to protect the universe from domination by
the forces of evil – or maybe they just want to win some great
prizes!
Dinner and Break
Join us at the Space Camp IMAX theater for a Pajama Party Sci-Fi
Film Festival featuring some really bad vintage sci-fi films and
some pretty good new ones! Snack bars will provide themed food and
drinks (cash bar). Try your luck at some of the sci-fi games as
well. Stay as long as you like or head back to the Habitat for some
night visions of your own.
Day 3 Sunday, August 13 :
After breakfast your team will head off-campus for the Aviation
Challenge – a fun activity and an opportunity for you to experience
flight using state-of-the-art
aircraft
simulations. Your team will have an orientation of aviation,
terminology and basic flight maneuvers, followed by a short
demonstration and actual time in the MACH II cockpits. The 'Fuge is
an authentic Centrifuge that can simulate up to 6 gs of force - used
to test strength and physical endurance in stress-induced
environments.
After lunch, you’ll hear about the newest advances in the Mars
Exploration Program by an expert. The most recent focus of the Mars
Exploration Program is to determine whether liquid water is present
on Mars, either in its ancient past or preserved in the subsurface
today. If the answer is “Yes”, then the chance that life
existed/exists on Mars is quite possible!
A highlight of the Sci-Fi Fan Trips™ @ Space Camp is the Science vs.
Science Fiction Panel. Leading science fiction authors join
scientists from NASA for a lively discussion.
This afternoon is filled with more exciting fan events including a
Fan Fiction Writing Workshop (led by one of our panelists), and Josepha
Sherman’s popular presentation, The Mythology of Star Wars and Star
Trek. (choice of one)
Break to prepare for this evening’s Award Banquet.
The highlight of this year’s Sci-Fi Fan Trips™ @ Space Camp is the
Alien Costume Party of the Galaxy and Award Banquet! Dress up as
your favorite science fiction character for this gala event. A
themed menu, award presentations, Alien Bar and karaoke will make
this a party to remember!
Day 4 Monday, August 14 :
Enjoy a sleep-in after the gala party.
Try your hand at some space motion simulators including the 5
Degrees of Freedom and the Manned Maneuvering Unit.
The
Rocket Launch is one of the most exciting moments at Sci-Fi Fan
Trips™ @ Space Camp when you test your construction skills and watch
your rocket shoot off into the sky …….. or crash spectacularly onto
the field. Which will it be?
Challenge your teammates during breakfast to the toughest space and
science fiction trivia you can find. They’ll need it for the Space
and Sci-Fi Trivia Contest – a fast paced event where your team will
compete with other teams for the top prize!
Graduation takes place immediately following the contest.
You are welcome to spend more time at the U.S. Space and Rocket
Center and enjoy another IMAX movie as well as the G-Force
Accelerator, the Space Walk, Space Shot and the Mars Climbing Wall.
